How to Play
The Basics
Each week, I pick the NWSL matchup I'm most excited to watch. Your goal? Draft the highest-scoring 5-player squad from the match while sticking to a strict budget.
Scoring isn't driven by fancy analytics or meaningless metrics, all points are awarded based on straightforward statistics that I value.
Squad Requirements
- 5 total players
- At least 1 player from each team in the matchup
- At least 1 player at each position (GK, DEF, MID, FWD)
- 1 flex player from any field position (DEF, MID, FWD)
- Total roster cost must not exceed $10,000
Scoring System
- Goals: 5 points
- Assists: 3 points
- Tackles: 1 point
- Interceptions: 0.5 points
- Blocks: 0.5 points
- Shots: 0.2 points
- Passing: 0-10 points (see below)
- Saves (GK): 2 points each
- Goals Conceeded (GK): -1 points each
- Clean Sheet: 2 points (GK), 1 point (DEF)
- Yellow Card: -1 point
- Red Card: -3 points
- Own Goal: -2 points
Passing Scoring
- Players are awared between 0-10 points based on their passing percentage
- Example (full score): 12 completions from 14 attempts = 85.7% → 8.6 points
- When the minimum 11 pass attempts are met, players receive a full score
- Below the minimum threshold, players receive a half score with bonus points for pass completions
- After completing 4 passes, players are awarded +0.5 points for each additional completion (up to 10)
- Example (half score): 6/7 passes completed = 85.7% → (85.7 ÷ 10) ÷ 2 = 4.3 + (2 × 0.5) = 5.3 points
- Pass minimums exist to ensure undersized populations don't skew scoring
- Goalkeeper passing scoring is taken from their field passing data (i.e. excludes goalkicks)
